LIFE

What I’m learning while doing an internship:

  • tolerance or maybe the fact that i have almost none
  • acceptance of critique, endless bits of alterations and feeling like a fucking retard, since I’m expected to know exactly what someone else imagines in their head, but no matter how hard I try, I can only guess
  • doing the most uncreative work while the girl next to me is getting constantly praised for a simpler job
  • make everyone tea and open the door

I feel like when you do free work, you automatically declare that you are worthless and you are being treated akin. What it makes me realise is not only that all internships suck, but that most work sucks too. If you are a clerk, you do boring shit all day, but you leave at 5 PM. And if you do something creative, you do boring shit all day, apart from your day is twice as long as the clerk’s. How do people work 14 hours a day? When do they have a life? Do they have a life? Is that what life is?

STANDARD

I’m starting this log to track my thoughts, assess and access my self-development throughout the final year. So far, I’m disappointed with the way Moving Image pathway is managed, constantly comparing it to Graphic Design, where everything seems structured and controlled. Even though we ARE busy, it seems that we are pointlessly busy, since the pathway lacks structure. I went to the design lecture last week, where Rathna was talking about Unit 10. It was quite a contrast with Moving Image where tutors have no clue about what’s going on with the course.

That doesn’t make me feel like trying hard at all. We are supposed to have a presentation of the context draft tomorrow, which we are not set any standards for - how long it should be, what it is supposed to consist of, nothing. It’s like our tutors don’t put enough work into planning the course, but expect an output they don’t deserve. People tend to slack, and because of it the whole standard of the group’s work is lower than it could have been.
